Duration: Since 1991

Regular sampling at high tide started in 1991 with a frequency of one week in summer (March - October) and fortnightly in winter (November - February), covering the parameters salinity, temperature, Secchi depth, suspended matter, inorganic nutrients (NH4, NO2, NO3, PO4, SiO4) and chlorophyll-a. Since 2001 analysis of the dissolved organic fractions of phosphorus (DOP) and nitrogen (DON) has been included in the programme.

The annual cycles exhibit the typical seasonal patterns in temperate regions showing high inorganic nutrient concentrations and low phytoplankton biomass (as chlorophyll-a) in winter and the opposite conditions during the growing season. Dissolved organic nutrient compounds may contribute substantially to the bulk of total dissolved nutrient supply.

Gang des gelösten anorganischen und organischen Stickstoffs (DIN, DON) an der Terminstation Büsum Mole
Annual cycles of dissolved inorganic and organic nitrogen (DIN, DON) at the permanent station Buesum Mole

A study towards the representativeness of the permanent station Buesum Mole for the entire area of the Meldorf Bight revealed that the point measurements reflect well the average conditions in the region.
