Development of an online-controlled housing system for respiratory measurements in fish

The interdisciplinary research project in cooperation with the Gesellschaft für Marine Aquakultur mbH, aims to develop an atmospherically closed fish farming system for online detection of metabolic parameters in order to receive a detailed knowledge of the influence of different environmental conditions on gas exchange and thus on the physiology of fish.

Project description

The interdisciplinary research project in cooperation with the Gesellschaft für Marine Aquakultur mbH, aims to develop an atmospherically closed fish farming system for online detection of metabolic parameters in order to receive a detailed knowledge of the influence of different environmental conditions (such as feeding, hydraulic, temperature, density) on gas exchange (oxygen, carbon dioxide) and thus on the physiology of fish. The innovative system can be adapted to various scientific questions on fish metabolism by a controlled setting of different environmental parameters, scenario conditions as well as through the installation of various sensors. The parallel use of 10 larger volume fish tanks allows effective implementation of the experimental set-ups for the simulation of practical conditions.

First fish experiments will be done by Kevin Stiller within his diploma thesis.
