Project description

The interdisciplinary research project in cooperation with the Gesellschaft für Marine Aquakultur mbH (GMA), aims to develop an atmospherically closed fish farming system for online detection of metabolic parameters (see EStoFi) in order to receive a detailed knowledge of the influence of different environmental conditions (such as feeding, hydraulic, temperature, density) on gas exchange (oxygen, carbon dioxide, and ammonia) and thus on the physiology of fish.

Fish feeding in a tankThe innovative system can be adapted to various scientific questions on fish metabolism by a controlled setting of different environmental parameters, scenario conditions as well as through the installation of various sensors. The parallel use of 10 larger volume fish tanks allows effective implementation of the experimental set-ups for the simulation of practical conditions.

The development of the facility continues to realise an easier maintenance. Also fish experiments under different nutritional and environmental conditions will be done in order to proof the steadying of the system.
