Weather station at FTZ

The weather station is equipped with sensors for temperature, pressure, humidity, precipitation, different light sensors, and wind speed and direction.

Project description

The weather station is mainly equipped by sensors of the manufacturer Theodor Friedrichs (TF). All sensors are listed in the table with their specifications and their height over ground.

The collected data will be values averaged over one minute and archived in a data base. To detect extreme wind speeds, the maximum values will be archived directly.

The weather data are available in excel format for individual handling.

The highest wind speed was measured during intense low "Christian" on 28/10/2013 shortly after 14:00 CET clock. Our weather station recorded a peak wind of 44 m/s (158.4 km/h or 85.5 knots) and a minute mean value of 37.2 m/s (133.9 km/h or 72.3 knots). The wind direction was SSW - SW (210 degrees).

The conversion factors for the wind speed are:   1 m/s   =   1.944 knots   =   2.236 mph   =   3.6 km/h
